Lindsay Joelle is a playwright, librettist, and author living in the Sonoran desert of Arizona.
I write big-hearted comedies about the collision of different worldviews. My plays throw together people from different cultures, classes, educational backgrounds, and faiths to watch them collide, trigger each other, and eventually do the heavy lifting required to connect.
To write stories that center the rituals and routines, humor and jargon of insular communities across America, I cultivate an extensive research process that spans years of fieldwork asking questions, collecting stories, and searching for common ground. I call this process “community dramaturgy;” it’s how I ensure that my plays sound and feel authentic and reflect the values of the communities they uplift.
