Lindsay Joelle is a playwright, librettist, and author living in the Sonoran desert of Arizona.
I write big-hearted comedies about the collision of different worldviews. My plays throw together people from different cultures, classes, and faiths into tight spaces to watch them collide and connect.
To center the rituals, routines, and humor of insular communities, I cultivate a research process that requires stepping out from behind the screen to ask questions, build trust, and search for common ground. This fieldwork of “community dramaturgy” is how I ensure that my plays feel authentic and reflect the values of the communities they uplift.
